    Help & Information

    Timecode Formats

The calculator supports two common timecode formats:

    • HH:MM:SS:FF - Hours:Minutes:Seconds:Frames (e.g., 01:23:45:12)
    • HH:MM:SS.MS - Hours:Minutes:Seconds.Milliseconds (e.g., 01:23:45.500)

    Calculator Functions

    • Add - Adds two timecodes together
    • Subtract - Subtracts the second timecode from the first
    • Duration - Calculates the time difference between two timecodes
    • Convert - Translates between timecode formats, frames, and seconds
    • Offset - Applies a positive or negative offset to a timecode
    • FPS Conversion - Converts timecodes between different frame rates

    Tips

    • Use the framerate buttons to set the current working framerate
    • When entering timecode, you can use period (.) or comma (,) for milliseconds
    • For frames to timecode conversion, simply enter the frame number
    • For seconds to timecode, enter the number of seconds (can include decimals)
    • History is saved in your browser between sessions

Spluxly’s free online Timecode Calculator is a professional-grade post-production tool designed for video editors, film producers, broadcast engineers, and multimedia creators who need fast and accurate timecode arithmetic. The calculator supports all standard frame rates — 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, and 60 fps — as well as custom frame rates, and works with both the HH:MM:SS:FF (hours, minutes, seconds, frames) and HH:MM:SS.MS (hours, minutes, seconds, milliseconds) timecode formats. Core functions include adding two timecodes together, subtracting one from another, and calculating the duration between two points. A dedicated conversion panel handles four essential conversions: timecode to frames, frames to timecode, timecode to seconds, and seconds to timecode. Advanced tools extend the functionality further with a timecode offset panel for applying positive or negative offsets to any timecode, and a frame rate conversion panel for translating timecodes accurately between different fps standards. A persistent calculation history saves up to 50 past results locally in your browser between sessions for easy reference. Whether you are syncing footage, calculating edit durations, or managing complex multi-format timelines, this tool delivers precision at every step. Completely free, no registration required.

How to Use the Timecode Calculator Online

Running timecode calculations takes just seconds. Follow these simple steps:

    • Set Your Frame Rate – Click one of the preset fps buttons (24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, or 60) or enter a custom frame rate and click Set; the current working frame rate is displayed below the buttons at all times
    • Select Your Timecode Format – Choose HH:MM:SS:FF (frames-based) or HH:MM:SS.MS (milliseconds-based) from the format dropdown to match your project’s timecode standard
    • Enter Timecode 1 – Type your first timecode into the Timecode 1 field using the selected format (e.g., 01:23:45:12)
    • Enter Timecode 2 – Type your second timecode into the Timecode 2 field (e.g., 02:34:56:23)
    • Select an Operation – Choose Add (sum both timecodes), Subtract (deduct Timecode 2 from Timecode 1), or Duration (calculate the time difference between the two)
    • Click Calculate – Instantly see the result displayed in the Calculation Result panel in your selected timecode format
    • Use Conversion Tools – Enter a timecode, frame count, or second value in the conversion panel, select the conversion type (Timecode to Frames, Frames to Timecode, Timecode to Seconds, or Seconds to Timecode), and click Convert
    • Apply a Timecode Offset – Enter a source timecode and an offset value in the Advanced Tools panel, choose Add or Subtract, and click Apply Offset to shift the timecode by a precise amount
    • Convert Between Frame Rates – Enter a source timecode, select source fps and target fps, and click Convert FPS to translate the timecode accurately to the new frame rate standard
    • Review Calculation History – Scroll to the history panel to view, copy, or clear any of your last 50 calculations saved automatically during the session

Timecode Formats and Frame Rate Reference

    Supported Timecode Formats:

    FormatStructureUse Case
    HH:MM:SS:FFHours:Minutes:Seconds:FramesFilm, broadcast, NLE editing
    HH:MM:SS.MSHours:Minutes:Seconds.MillisecondsWeb video, streaming, audio sync

    Supported Frame Rates:

    Frame RateCommon Use
    24 fpsCinema, feature films
    25 fpsPAL broadcast (Europe, Australia)
29.97 fpsNTSC broadcast (USA, Japan) — drop frame
30 fpsOnline video, non-drop frame NTSC
50 fpsPAL high frame rate broadcast
60 fpsHigh frame rate online and streaming video

How Timecode Arithmetic Works: Timecodes are not decimal numbers — they count frames within seconds, not tenths. Adding 01:00:00:20 and 00:00:00:10 at 24 fps gives 01:00:01:06 (not 01:00:00:30), because 30 frames rolls over to 1 second and 6 remaining frames. The calculator handles all frame boundary rollovers automatically.

Drop Frame vs Non-Drop Frame (29.97 fps): At 29.97 fps, drop frame timecode periodically skips frame numbers (not actual frames) to keep timecode aligned with real clock time. The calculator accounts for the 29.97 fps standard correctly in all arithmetic and conversion operations.

    Why Use Spluxly’s Timecode Calculator?

    • Six Standard Frame Rates Plus Custom – Supports 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, and 60 fps out of the box, plus a custom fps input field for non-standard frame rates used in specialised film, broadcast, and streaming workflows
    • Two Timecode Formats – Works with both the frame-based HH:MM:SS:FF format standard in film and broadcast editing and the millisecond-based HH:MM:SS.MS format common in web video and audio post-production
    • Four Core Operations – Add, subtract, and find the duration between any two timecodes with full frame-boundary rollover handling, and convert freely between timecode, raw frame counts, and total seconds
    • Timecode Offset Tool – Applies precise positive or negative offsets to any timecode for re-syncing footage, adjusting clip start points, or correcting timecode drift across a multi-camera project
    • Frame Rate Conversion – Translates timecodes accurately between any two supported frame rates, essential when conforming projects between PAL and NTSC standards or delivering to platforms with different fps requirements
    • Persistent Calculation History – Saves up to 50 past calculations locally in your browser between sessions so you can reference, copy, or review previous results without re-entering values
    • 100% Free & Instant – No registration, no fees — professional-grade timecode arithmetic, conversion, offset, and frame rate translation delivered in seconds
