How to Use the Cumulative GPA Calculator Online

Calculating your cumulative GPA takes just a few steps. Follow these simple instructions:

How Cumulative GPA Is Calculated

Cumulative GPA is calculated using a weighted average formula that accounts for both the grade value and the credit hours of every course across all semesters, including any previously recorded academic history.

Grade Point Values (Standard 4.0 Scale):

Semester GPA Formula: Semester GPA = Σ (Grade Points × Credit Hours) ÷ Total Semester Credit Hours

Example for two courses — Calculus I (A, 3 credits) and History (B+, 3 credits):

• Calculus I: 4.0 × 3 = 12.0
• History: 3.3 × 3 = 9.9
• Semester GPA: (12.0 + 9.9) ÷ 6 = 3.65

Cumulative GPA Formula: Cumulative GPA = (Previous GPA × Previous Credits + Current Semester Quality Points) ÷ Total Credits

Example with previous record of 3.50 over 60 credits and current semester GPA of 3.65 over 6 credits:

• Cumulative GPA: (3.50 × 60 + 3.65 × 6) ÷ 66 = 3.51
